Dark and light contrasts ‘the look for 2010’

Dark and light contrasted could be the flooring look for 2010 if the predictions of one design expert turn out to be correct.
Interior designer and member of the British Institute of Interior Design Carolyn Trevor said that black and white mixed with the odd intrusion of "bright colour" will be the dominant theme for this year, which she said may be influenced by the recent recession.

She added: "This look for 2010 is heavily influenced by the global economic meltdown and this particular mix gives the look an urban edginess."

Ms Trevor said that these "dark and dramatic" combinations could create a "theatrical" look in the home, adding that people may make a "statement" by adopting this style.

Carolyn Trevor is not alone in predicting that such a trend will come to dominate the home interiors sector.

Last month, Sunday Times writer Katrina Burrows suggested that black and white will be back this year as "vampire chic" comes back into fashion.
